Most people remember their very first movie like a kind of magic, princesses, castles, and talking animals that burst into song. My first movie memory? Not so much.

The first film that really stuck with me was Terminator 2: Judgment Day. I was hooked on the action and the time travel storyline, but what really stayed with me was the idea that machines might one day take control. Back then, it felt like pure sci-fi. I thought I’d grow out of it and that reality would settle in, and I’d move on. Spoiler: I didn’t.

Here we are today, and AI isn’t launching a robot uprising, but it’s woven into how we live, work, and make decisions. At its best, it’s like the T-800 protecting John Connor: strong, reliable, and ready to help. But T2 also taught us something crucial: not every machine is on your side.

We’ve already seen the flip side. Remember in May 2023 when that image of the Pentagon surrounded by thick smoke went viral? It looked real enough to shake the stock market briefly. The Department of Defense had to step in and say it was fake. Reuters reported it was AI-generated and spread faster than anyone could fact-check. That’s the speed of misinformation now. By the time truth catches up, the damage is done.

That’s where PR pros come in, and where having the right partner makes the difference. Our job might not be as dramatic as Sarah Connor’s fight to protect her son, but the mission is similar: we protect our clients’ reputations. We monitor for threats in real time, act fast to correct false narratives, and ensure your brand’s truth is the one people hear first.

AI can be amazing. It can sift through mountains of data in seconds, spot hidden patterns, and make us way more efficient. But it’s not perfect. It can mess up, sometimes in big ways. That’s why human judgment matters now more than ever. We’re the ones who check facts, work with journalists and fact-checkers, and make sure the real story gets told.

The PR teams who win at this balance speed with care. They move fast, communicate clearly, and know credibility comes from telling the truth repeatedly.

AI will only get smarter, and fake content will get harder to spot. But our job stays the same: protect credibility, tell the truth, and build lasting trust.

Machines are already part of our world. Whether they become allies or problems depends on how we choose to work with them. For me, that choice always starts and ends with honesty.

If your organization isn’t ready with a misinformation rapid response plan, now is the time to act. Let’s talk about how The Pollack Group can help you protect your credibility in the age of AI.
