Dear Reply All enthusiasts,
We hope you’re doing well*, and thanks for being a part of our TENTH episode! We love having this platform that allows us to share our personalities, and (mostly) unfiltered opinions and views on all the news items and digital content that makes our world go ‘round. Summer is coming to an end, pumpkin spice lattes are coming to a Starbucks near you any day now, JonBenet Ramsey is about to dominate our fall TV schedule and Nick Viall has been named the new Bachelor. Here at PPMG, we’re paying extra close attention to a certain cast member on this season of “Dancing With The Stars,” rethinking dating in the age of augmented reality, reminiscing about MTV’s glory days in original TV programming and texting each other in complete sentences with proper grammar. K? Let’s get started!
Lochte-gate, Lochte-mess, Lochte-ghazi. Whatever you want to call it, there’s no question that Ryan Lochte has dominated the news from start to finish recently. In case you really have been living under a rock, here’s a recap. While some of us follow sports more closely than others, we had plenty of opinions on the subject. Can Ryan redeem himself? Is this possibly the worst sports PR blunder of all time? And are his party boy shenanigans actually worse than the actions of someone who has been charged with two DUIs? Ryan recently hired the same crisis PR counsel that worked with Justin Bieber, who seems to be doing pretty well these days, no? #JEAH
Our HARO of the month comes from Lucy Clarke with Older Dating, a dating site for singles over age 40. Lucy was seeking dating experts to discuss PokemonGo-themed dates, an idea that didn’t resonate too well with our NYC crew. If you’re staring at your phone, how are you supposed to focus on the other person? And do we really think augmented reality is the future of dating apps? Dating is awfully complicated these days. Take it from Julie, who’s happily married: just don’t date at all. If you’re curious, peep the article here.
For this month’s On Review, Megan, who was not allowed to watch MTV as a child, decided to make up for lost time and check out the pilot episodes of three of MTV’s classic shows; ICYMI, they recently announced that they would launch a rebranded channel dedicated to fan-favorite series and music programming with a special focus on the 1990s and early 2000s. So does “Daria” stand the test of time? Have Frankie Muniz and Justin Timberlake recovered from being “Punk’d” yet? And why do we still love “The Hills” so much?
*Sidenote: we regret to inform you that it’s time to stop writing “I hope you’re doing well” at the beginning of all of your emails. Trust us. Oh, and one more thing: the period is not dead.
Thanks for tuning in, and we’ll see you in the fall!
Megan, Mariel, Brittney, Stephanie, Julie, Olivia and Jackie
